Al-Nāziʿāt 79:36

Exposition

This verse announces that the veils of the unseen will be removed from all those who have eyes – meaning everyone¹ – such that they would see the reality of hellfire (50:22). Both the believers and the deniers would see the hellfire (19:71-72).² Both also now clearly see the reality of their past life and the accountability that comes with it, a reality that was attested to exclusively by the believers who would say, after reflecting about creation: Our Lord, You have not created this in vain! Immaculate are You! Save us from the punishment of the fire (3:191). At that point, however, attesting to the reality for those who had been denying it only brings sorrow and great regret (25:27).³ Note that the hellfire is brought into view and not into existence on the Day of Judgement (29:25).⁴
