Al-Muṭaffifīn – Verse 24

تَعرِفُ في وُجوهِهِم نَضرَةَ النَّعيمِ

You will perceive in their faces the freshness of bliss.

EXEGESIS

Naḍrah means glamour and lustre.[1] It is mentioned only in two other places in the Quran to describe the faces of the believers (75:22, 76:11) in the context of the Day of Judgement.

EXPOSITION

The Day of Judgement is described as a day, frowning and fateful (ʿabūsan qamṭarīra) (76:10). Having faces that show glamour and lustre (naḍrah) reflects the state of comfort, happiness, and winning which comes from the rewards and bliss attained on such a difficult day. Also, the lustre may be resulting from what they are observing and looking at on that tremendous day.
