عَلىٰ سُرُرٍ مَوضونَةٍ
On brocaded couches.
EXEGESIS
Mawḍūnah: brocaded, embellished, lined. The original usage of the term concerns a chain armour that is woven in a coherent and orderly way. Therefore, the close ones will be reclining on couches that are strong, robust, and tenacious. It has also been interpreted by some of the early exegetes and companions as couches that are embellished by jewels and interwoven by silk and gold, which is confirmed by narrations. It might also involve an element of being in-line and ordered together, or placed closely to one another, which would refer to how the close ones will neighbour and associate with one another.
