Al-Wāqiʿah – Verse 33

لا مَقطوعَةٍ وَلا مَمنوعَةٍ

Neither inaccessible, nor forbidden.

EXPOSITION

There is no restriction or limitation in paradise, which is something difficult or impossible for us to imagine. Its pleasures and bounties will never stop; they are eternal. Likewise, the people of paradise will never be prohibited or held back from reaching or indulging in those bounties. It does not even take much to reach the fruits and blessings of paradise: And the fruit of the two gardens will be near at hand (55:54); Whose clusters [of fruits] will be within easy reach (69:23); Its shades will be close over them and its clusters [of fruits] will be hanging low (76:14). This great reward is a favour of God for those who kept away from what God had forbidden, and bore the hardship of abstaining from accessible sins in the short span of this life. ‘They had patience for a few days, and that resulted them an everlasting comfort.’[1]
