Al-Nabaʾ · The Tiding
سُورَةُ النبإ
About this chapter
Sūrat al-Nabaʾ is the seventy-eighth chapter of the Quran and it was revealed in Mecca. It is apparently the eightieth chapter that was revealed, after Sūrat al-Maʿārij (70) and before Sūrat al-Nāziʿāt (79). It consists of forty verses. Its name is obtained from the second verse, which talks about a great and significant news, al-nabaʾ al-ʿaẓīm.
The introduction sets out when the chapter came and what it addresses; the merits gather what the narrations say of reading it. Both are written as units of the tafsir, with their own footnotes.

- 20 And the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage.
- 21 Indeed hell is an ambush.

- 30 So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment!
- 31 Indeed for the God-wary awaits a place of triumph.
- 32 Gardens and vineyards.
- 33 And sublime and subservient maidens.
- 34 And brimming cups.
- 35 Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies.
- 36 A reward from your Lord, a bounty sufficing.
- 37 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the all-beneficent, whom they will not be able to address.
- 38 On the day when the spirit and the angels stand arrayed. None shall speak except whom the all-beneficent permits and who says what is right.
- 39 That is the true day. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord.
- 40 Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand – the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the…
