Al-Takwīr · The Winding Up
سُورَةُ التكوير
About this chapter
Sūrat al-Takwīr is suggested to be one of the earliest chapters to have been revealed in Mecca, and consists of twenty-nine verses.
The introduction sets out when the chapter came and what it addresses; the merits gather what the narrations say of reading it. Both are written as units of the tafsir, with their own footnotes.

- 3 When the mountains are set moving.
- 4 When the pregnant camels are neglected.
- 5 When the wild beasts are mustered.
- 6 When the seas are caused to overflow.
- 7 When the souls are paired.

- 14 Then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself].
- 15–16 So I swear by the planets that recede,
- 17 By the night as it retreats.
- 18 By the dawn as it breathes.
- 19 It is indeed the speech of a noble messenger.
- 20 Powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne.
- 21 One who is obeyed there, [and] worthy of trust.
- 22 Your companion is not mad.
- 23 Certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon.
- 24 And he is not niggardly concerning the unseen.
- 25 And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan.
- 26 So where are you going?
- 27 It is just a reminder for all people.
- 28 For those of you who wish to be steadfast.
- 29 But you do not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
