Al-Infiṭār · The Rending
سُورَةُ الإنفطار
About this chapter
Sūrat al-Infiṭār is the eighty-second chapter of the Quran, both in order of compilation and revelation, and it was revealed in Mecca. Some exegetes believe it to be one of the last chapters to be revealed just before the Prophet’s migration to Medina, and is subsequent to the revelation of Sūrat al-Nāziʿāt (79).
The introduction sets out when the chapter came and what it addresses; the merits gather what the narrations say of reading it. Both are written as units of the tafsir, with their own footnotes.

Verses you have read are marked; the one you are on is shaded
- 1 When the sky is rent apart.
- 2 When the stars are scattered.
- 3 When the seas are merged.
- 4 When the graves are overturned.
- 5 Then a soul shall know what it has sent ahead and left behind.
- 6 O man! What has deceived you about your generous Lord?
- 7–8 Who created you and proportioned you, and gave you an upright nature.
- 9 No indeed! Rather you deny the retribution.
- 10 Indeed, there are over you watchers.
- 11 Noble writers.
- 12 Who know whatever you do.
- 13 Indeed the pious shall be amid bliss.
- 14–16 And indeed the vicious shall be in hell,
- 17–19 And what will show you what is the Day of Retribution?
