سُورَةُ المطففين

About this chapter

Sūrat al-Muṭaffifīn is the eighty-third chapter of the Quran. The scholars regard it as the first surah to be revealed in Medina except for the last eight verses, which are regarded as Meccan. Apparently, it is the eighty-sixth chapter according to the chronological order of revelation, after Sūrat al-ʿAnkabūt (29) and before Sūrat al-Baqarah (2).

The introduction sets out when the chapter came and what it addresses; the merits gather what the narrations say of reading it. Both are written as units of the tafsir, with their own footnotes.

  16. 20 It is a written record.
  17. 21 Witnessed by the close ones.

  20. 24 You will perceive in their faces the freshness of bliss.

  23. 29 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the faithful.
  24. 30 And when they passed them by they would wink at each other.
  1. 31 And when they returned to their folks they would return rejoicing.

  4. 36 Have the faithless been requited for what they used to do?
