Al-Ḍuḥā · The Morning Brightness
سُورَةُ الضحى
About this chapter
Sūrat al-Ḍuḥā is the ninety-third chapter in the Quran and it was revealed in Mecca. It is apparently the eleventh chapter that was revealed, after Sūrat al-Fajr (89) and before Sūrat al-Sharḥ (94). It consists of eleven verses in addition to the basmalah, the invocation of God’s name. It is closely connected to Sūrat al-Sharḥ (94) to the extent that they are considered as one surah.
The introduction sets out when the chapter came and what it addresses; the merits gather what the narrations say of reading it. Both are written as units of the tafsir, with their own footnotes.

Verses you have read are marked; the one you are on is shaded
- 1 By the morning brightness.
- 2 By the night when it is calm.
- 3 Your Lord has neither left you nor has He turned away from you in displeasure.
- 4 And the hereafter shall be better for you than the world.
- 5 Soon your Lord will give you [that with which] you will be pleased.
- 6 Did He not know you to be an orphan, and sheltered you?
- 7 Did He not know you to be searching, and guided you?
- 8 Did He not know you to be conscious of your need, and enriched you?
- 9 Therefore, as for the orphan, do not oppress him.
- 10 And as for the one with a request, do not chide him.
- 11 And as for the Lord’s blessing, proclaim it!
