فَأَنبَتنا فيها حَبًّا

And made the grain grow in it.

EXEGESIS

Anbatnā (made to grow) is derived from the verb nabata, which means to emerge through the process of growth, whether from the earth or another source. While it most commonly refers to plants, it can also apply to other forms of growth,^{‎[1]Tahqiq, 12/19, n-b-t.}
as in the case of Lady Mary: her Lord accepted her with a gracious acceptance, and made her grow up (anbatahā) in a worthy fashion (nabātan ḥasanan) (3:37).

Form four of the verb, anbata, in this context means that God has caused this growth to occur, emphasising divine agency in nurturing and development.

Ḥabb (grain) is the plural of ḥabbah, referring to seeds such as wheats, oats, and similar crops.^{‎[2]Tabari, 30/37.}
From the same root comes ḥubb (love), so named because love is said to enter the very core of the heart, just as a seed is planted deep within the earth.^{‎[3]Raghib, p. 214, ḥ-b-b.}
