Exegesis

Exegesis is the Greek word for interpretation. It is used in modern English to mean the explanation and critical analysis of a text to discover its intended meaning. Although the term is used to include exposition and interpretation of the text too, but what we mean by exegesis in this work is only those aspects of interpretation which are related to grammar, syntax, vocabulary, etymology, balāghah and the like. In other words, this section tries to clarify the meaning of the Arabic verse by analysing its semantics. To that end, different possible sentence structures, various ways in which the sentences of a verse may be connected to or disconnected from each other, would be explored as well. Other aspects of interpretation are discussed under the title ‘exposition’.
