سُورَةُ الانسان
About this chapter
Sūrat al-Insān is the seventy-sixth chapter in the Quran and it was mostly revealed in Medina. Its other names are al-Dahr, in allusion to verse 1, al-Abrār, in reference to verse 5, and Hal Atā, the surah’s first two words. Chronologically, it comes as the ninety-eighth surah after Sūrat al-Raḥmān and before Sūrat al-Ṭalāq. It consists of thirty-one verses in addition to the basmalah.
The introduction sets out when the chapter came and what it addresses; the merits gather what the narrations say of reading it. Both are written as units of the tafsir, with their own footnotes.

- 1 Has there been for man a period of time when he was not anything worthy of mention?
- 2 Indeed We created man from the drop of a mixed fluid so that We may test him. So We made him endowed with hearing and sight.
- 3 Indeed We have guided him to the way, be he grateful or ungrateful.
- 4 Indeed We have prepared for the faithless chains, iron collars, and a blaze.
- 5 Indeed the pious will drink from a cup seasoned with kāfūr.
- 6 A spring where the servants of Allah drink, which they make to gush forth as they please.
- 7 They fulfil their vows and fear a day whose ill will be widespread.
- 8 They give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, and the prisoner.
- 9 [Saying:] ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We do not want any reward from you nor any thanks.
- 10 Indeed we fear from our Lord a day, frowning and fateful.’
- 11 So Allah saved them from the ills of that day, and granted them freshness and joy.
- 12 And He rewarded them for their patience with a garden and [garments of] silk.
- 13 Reclining therein on couches. They will find in it neither any [scorching] sun, nor any [biting] cold.
- 14 Its shades will be close over them and its clusters [of fruits] will be hanging low.
- 15 They will be served around with vessels of silver and goblets of crystal.
- 16 Crystal of silver – [from] which they dispense in a precise measure.
- 17 They will be served therein with a cup of a drink seasoned with zanjabīl.
- 18 A spring in it, named Salsabīl.
- 19 They will be waited upon by immortal youths, whom, when you see them, you will suppose them to be scattered pearls.
- 20 As you look, you will see there bliss and a great kingdom.
- 21 Upon them will be cloaks of green silk and brocade and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them to drink a…
- 22 [They will be told]: ‘This is indeed your reward, and your endeavour has been well-appreciated.
- 23 Indeed We have sent down to you the Quran in a gradual descent.
- 24 So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, and do not obey any sinner or ingrate among them.
- 25 And celebrate the name of your Lord morning and evening.
- 26 And prostrate to Him for a watch of the night and glorify Him the night long.
- 27 Indeed they love this transitory life, and disregard a weighty day ahead of them.
- 28 We created them and made their joints firm, and whenever We like We will replace them with others like them.
- 29 This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord.
- 30 But you do not wish unless it is wished by Allah. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
- 31 He admits whomever He wishes into His mercy, and as for the wrongdoers, He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
