وَإِلىٰ رَبِّكَ فَارغَب

And turn eagerly to your Lord.

EXEGESIS

Farghab (turn eagerly) is combined of the imperative irghab and the prefix fa. It is from the root r-gh-b, which, when used with the suffix fī (in) or ilā (to) means liking and having tendency towards something or someone, which is the case in this verse. Whenever it is used with the words ʿan (from) it means to turn away and not pay attention to something or someone, as in, And who will [ever] renounce (yarghabu ʿan) Abraham’s creed except one who fools himself? EXPOSITION

The surah is concluded by a beautiful instruction: rely on God in all circumstances and turn your attention to your Lord in ease or hardship, in comfort and discomfort. If hardship is followed by ease, and the matter in that rests with God alone, then delve in the hardship of your duties and in the difficulty of worshipping Him alone, then turn to Him beseeching Him to bless you with the comfort after your fatigue, and with ease after your hardship. Do not ask anyone but your Lord, for He alone is able to help you.
