إِنَّ الَّذينَ آمَنوا وَعَمِلُوا الصّالِحاتِ لَهُم جَنّاتُ النَّعيمِ

As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, for them will be gardens of bliss.

EXPOSITION

The previous two verses describe the state of the disbelievers. The current two verses, in contrast, describe the state of the believers. Thus if the disbeliever gives a deaf ear to the truth, the believer gives a deaf ear to falsehood and instead opens his ear to the truth.^[1] Imam Ali (a) is attributed to have said the following in his description of the pious: ‘They lower their gaze from what God has forbidden them, and dedicate their ears to knowledge that is useful for them.’^[2] Thus the meaning of this verse becomes clear. It says, As for those who have faith in God and His Prophet^[3] and do righteous deeds in obedience to God,^[4] for them will be gardens of bliss on the Day of Judgement where they will take pleasure.^[5] This is not but for their maintaining the prayer, discharging the zakāh, and believing in the hereafter with certain faith (verse 4).^[6]
