لِلَّهِ ما فِي السَّماواتِ وَالأَرضِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الغَنِيُّ الحَميدُ
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Indeed, Allah is the all-sufficient, the all-laudable.
EXPOSITION
This verse constitutes an emphatic conclusion, flowing as it does from the previous verse, which is that if God is the sole creator of the heavens and the earth and He is the sole manager-sustainer of it too, to the exclusion of all others, then the universe is His creation and His kingdom and domain to the exclusion of all others. He can do whatever He wishes with it and none may take exception to Him, while none apart from Him deserves worship and obedience in them.
It was established that God possesses the following three attributes: creator of the universe, its manager and sustainer, and its owner and king. Thereafter, God concludes with Indeed, Allah is the all-sufficient, the all-laudable (see also 4:131 and 22:64). He is all-sufficient because He is the creator, manager, sustainer, and owner of the universe. A being thus described is essentially and absolutely self-sufficient and not in need of anything from anyone and there is no wealth or self-sufficiency save from Him. He is also beyond having need of the praise and extolment of others for Him.
He is all-laudable for laudation and praise is in response to something beautiful wrought freely, and since every instance of beauty in the universe is from God then all praise and laudation is especially reserved for Him. Thus He is deserving and worthy of great praise and exaltation, even if He may not be lauded and appreciated by some of His creation.
